Recently one of our prospective customers who are on the verge of moving to Oracle Fusion Cloud/Oracle SaaS Applications asked us an interesting question:

“Should we consolidate all our individual systems into one common Oracle EBS system before we make the move to the cloud? Or do you recommend we move directly to the cloud?”

Our suggestion without thinking too much of it was – Don’t add to the inertia by adding another step, initiate the move to the cloud right away.

Our suggestion was based on obviously our experience and expertise in helping customers move to the cloud, strengthened by our confidence in how DMOneCloud™ has made this move seamless, efficient and very simple, in terms of addressing the data moves and it’s quality that leads to over 75% of delays, in successfully making this move.

We did however, want to address that question in more detail to help others with a similar dilemma.

Moving directly to Oracle Fusion Cloud, rather than consolidating multiple Oracle EBS systems into one consolidated EBS system first, has several advantages. Here are the key points in favour of this approach:

Cost Efficiency
  • Avoid Redundant Projects: Consolidating multiple EBS systems into one and then moving to Oracle Fusion Cloud involves two major projects, each with its own costs, timeframes, and risks. Directly moving to Oracle Fusion Cloud eliminates the intermediate consolidation step, reducing overall project costs.
  • Lower Maintenance Costs: Maintaining a consolidated EBS system while planning for a subsequent migration to Oracle Fusion Cloud can be costly. Direct migration can result in immediate savings in maintenance and support.
Time Savings
  • Faster Time to Value: Skipping the intermediate consolidation step accelerates the overall migration timeline, allowing organizations to realize the benefits of Oracle Fusion Cloud sooner.
  • Reduced Downtime: With a single migration project, the cumulative downtime associated with two major transitions (consolidation and cloud migration) is minimized.
Modernisation and Future-Proofing
  • Access to Advanced Features: Oracle Fusion Cloud offers modern features, including advanced analytics, AI capabilities, and enhanced user interfaces, which may not be fully available in a consolidated EBS environment.
  • Stay Current: Oracle Fusion Cloud is regularly updated with new features and improvements, ensuring that organisations stay current with the latest technology and best practices.
Simplified Project Management
  • Single Transformation Project: Managing a single migration project is simpler and less complex than handling two separate projects (consolidation and migration).
  • Focused Change Management: Organisations can focus on a single change management initiative, making it easier to manage stakeholder expectations and user training.
Enhanced Integration and Scalability
  • Better Integration Capabilities: Oracle Fusion Cloud offers better integration options with other cloud services and third-party applications, providing a more comprehensive and scalable solution.
  • Scalability: Oracle Fusion Cloud is designed to scale seamlessly, supporting future growth and expansion without the need for further significant system overhauls.
Risk Mitigation
  • Reduced Complexity: Each additional step in a migration project introduces potential risks and complexities. By moving directly to Oracle Fusion Cloud, organizations can reduce the risk of complications arising from the intermediate consolidation phase.
  • Proven Cloud Security: Oracle Fusion Cloud provides robust security features and compliance certifications, ensuring data protection and regulatory compliance without the need for additional consolidation security measures.
User Experience and Adoption
  • Improved User Experience: Oracle Fusion Cloud’s user-friendly interface and modern design can enhance user satisfaction and adoption compared to a legacy EBS system.
  • Consistent User Training: Training users once on Oracle Fusion Cloud rather than first on a consolidated EBS system and then on Fusion Cloud reduces confusion and training costs.

Moving directly to Oracle Fusion Cloud can provide significant benefits in terms of cost efficiency, time savings, modernisation, simplified project management, integration, scalability, risk mitigation, and user experience. These advantages make it a compelling choice for organisations looking to leverage the latest advancements in cloud technology.
